Distinguished Researcher from Underrepresented Groups Award

In recognition of the critical importance of diversifying the profile of special education researchers and the need to support and recognize researchers from underrepresented groups, CEC-DR seeks nominations for the Distinguished Researcher from Underrepresented Groups Award. This award recognizes special education researchers from underrepresented groups  (e.g., racial, ethnic, and linguistic minorities as well as researchers with disabilities). The award will be given to individual researchers or research teams whose work has substantially contributed to: (a) special education research and (b) improving the educational experiences and outcomes of students with disabilities.   The recognized work may include, but is not limited to, research articles, paper series, monographs, professional development activities, books/and or book chapters. Nominations are sought across all areas of special education as well as all forms of research methodology and theoretical approaches.  

To submit a nomination/self-nomination for this award, email a copy of the following by October 15th to the chair of this award: 

1.    A letter of nomination, NO LONGER THAN 3 pages, addressing each of the following:

  • a.    The nominee’s/nominees’ identity with respect to an underrepresented group in special education research, 
  • b.    the contributions and impact of the nominee’s work to special education research, and to improving the educational experiences and outcomes of students with disabilities.

2.    The nominee’s/nominees’ complete and current vitae 

3.    Names and contact information for three additional references.

4.    No more than 2 reprints representative of the nominee’s/nominees’ work.
